Area Assistance


Description:

Bear Aware


Description:
Bear Aware is an educational wildlife program with a goal to teach human responsibility in removing attractants in order to reduce conflicts with black bears in Colorado. Volunteer efforts aim to reduce or eliminate bear break-ins through education, aversive conditioning and community action. Volunteers distribute bear information to the public in neighborhoods where conflicts occur, post signs, go door to door talking to neighbors, and volunteer at information booths and parades.
Time Commitment:
As needed in response to neighborhood issues. Busier season is March - November.
Volunteer Benefits:
Engage with local communities, provide information about black bears in Colorado while supporting local staff.

Chronic Wasting Disease Sample Transport


Description:
Transport chronic wasting disease (CWD) samples from the Hot Sulphur Springs office to the Steamboat Springs office or other locations as needed during big game seasons.
Time Commitment:
As needed, August - April
Volunteer Benefits:
Learn about wildlife disease management, customer service interactions, and work closely with CPW staff.

Customer Service Assistance


Description:
Provide administrative assistance to office: filing, typing, answering phones, making copies and various other duties. Training provided.

Shooting Range Maintenance


Description:
Volunteers needed to help keep range clean of trash and debris. Assistance with range maintenance and enhancement efforts when available.
Time Commitment:
Ongoing

Wildlife Transport


Description:
Capture and transport injured and orphaned wildlife to veterinarians or rehabilitators. Provide wildlife information to the public.
Time Commitment:
Respond to calls as needed. Committment with flexible availability is preferred.
Volunteer Benefits:
Share your appreciation for wildlife while assisting our staff to tranport small mammals and birds if needed. Provide information to the public about young or injured wildlife.
