A customer service-based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park. This is an important position for the protection of natural resources from non-native species that threaten wildlife, drinking water/irrigation and all water related outdoor recreation in the State of Colorado. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. Training in boat inspection methods will be provided. REQUIREMENTS: - Must be at least 16 years of age with reliable transportation. - Must be able to volunteer outdoors and on weekends, holidays, and varied shifts. - Must be able to climb in and out of vessels and under trailers. - Ability to volunteer with little supervision. - The position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, as well as whole body movement. These activities include but are not limited to climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Ability to discern color differences and to hear in-person and radio communications is required. Specific volunteer responsibilities may include: • Serve in the park ANS (aquatic nuisance species) inspection station. • Conduct physical boat inspections and boater interviews. • Provide information and assistance to the boating public (distributes brochures, promotes ANS education, educates about State Park regulations, etc.) • Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of ANS inspection areas. • Accurate counting and recording of all boat inspections.

This volunteer role is a public outreach effort to share boating safety information, best practices, rules, and regulations with park visitors. While personal boating experience is not necessary, the desire to learn the rules and educate others on boat safety is!
Reports indicate that over 3,000 injuries, and 767 deaths occurred in 2020 due to boating accidents. Our goal is to decrease that number and help our visitors enjoy the waters of CO safely!

Lake Pueblo, rated a fishing “hot spot,” provides over 4,600 surface acres of water, 60 miles of shoreline and almost 10,000 acres of land.
Responsibilities:
Site elevation: 4,700 ft.
Looking for 4 hosts for the 2024 season! Pairs, individuals, families with children, and people who are still working/in their careers (e.g. working remotely) are all accepted. Hosts are permitted to have pets.

Weed, plant, water and help keep our native Colorado xeriscape garden beautiful. The team gets together for garden work as needed, which is usually weekly in the spring and when working on larger projects, and bi-weekly or monthly during the summer. Shifts are currently during the week in the morning.

Volunteer responsibilities for Visitor Center/Office Support may include but are not limited to: Answering phones; word processing and data entry on the computer; file; or perform other clerical tasks. Help to raise funds and write grant proposals. Provide computer training; trouble-shooting or computer program design. Staff a visitor center information desk or sales outlet. Design and prepare exhibits, displays, and bulletin boards. Market and advertise park programs. Write and edit newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, and manuals. Produce artwork or graphic design for publications, signs, flyers, or exhibits.
