Boat Ramp Shuttle Driver


Navajo State Park's shuttle driver program is one of the most popular of volunteer activities in the park! Service includes driving a passenger utility vehicle between the overflow parking lots and the marina. The shuttle service is free to the public from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. A full-service campsite is provided for 18-20 hours of service per driver per week. A machine/park orientation is required.

Navajo State Park is looking for volunteer camp hosts. Located midway between Durango and Pagosa Springs on the New Mexico border, Navajo Reservoir is 15,600 surface acres of aquatic fun!

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Clean Campsites
  • Sell Firewood
  • Answer visitor questions
  • Shuttle drive visitors to and from boat ramp with UTV
  • Wetland/trail management projects
  • Other tasks as assigned

Site elevation: 6,100 ft.

Looking for hosts for the 2024 season! Couples are preferred, but individuals are also accepted. Hosts are permitted to have dogs as long as they are kept leashed and/or contained/under control.

Maintenance and Construction Get Involved Photo

Maintenance and Construction


Repair and construct fence. Clean up park grounds and facilities. Complete special or seasonal maintenance tasks as needed. (For example: boat dock repair). Do carpentry, remodeling or other construction projects. Provide landscape design expertise. Make park information signs. Assist with minor vehicle/boat/equipment repairs and maintenance.

Special Projects Get Involved Photo

Special Projects


These volunteers perform general park support functions, such as: maintenance, visitor center, environmental education, dock/marina store attendant or other responsibilities, depending on skill and preferences. Maintenance includes: litter control, landscaping, grounds keeping, cleaning of park facilities. Visitor center includes: pass sales, revenue collection and dispensation of information. There are also opportunities in Environmental Education which includes: development and presentation of environmental programs as well as networking with local entities for guest programs.

Visitor Services Get Involved Photo

Visitor Services


Answer phones; do word processing and data entry on the computer; file; or perform other clerical tasks. Fundraise and write grant proposals. Provide computer training; trouble-shooting or computer program design. Staff a visitor center information desk or sales outlet. Coordinate a special event. Design and prepare exhibits, displays, and bulletin boards. Market and advertise park programs. Write and edit newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, and manuals. Produce artwork or graphic design for publications, signs, flyers, or exhibits. Train staff or volunteers in desktop publishing software and techniques.
