Description:

All volunteer hosts positions with CPW are unpaid volunteer positions.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The resident volunteer program is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities. As a general maintenance resident volunteer you will perform maintenance tasks throughout the park.

These responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including restrooms, showers, toilets, campsites, picnic areas, mowing, weed control, build and maintain trails, etc.
  • Operates and performs routine maintenance on State owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Provides and ensures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness and provides information and assistance to visitors.
  • May also assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work, general landscape duties and transporting materials and supplies and performs other duties as assigned.

A full time resident volunteer will receive a full hook up (Electric, sewer, water) site in exchange for their volunteer service. In the winter, Resident Volunteers are needed to help serve in the Visitor Center and as Gate Attendants. This is a full-time volunteer position, and full hook-ups sites are provided. DURATION OF OCCUPANCY: Duration of Occupancy of resident volunteer/host assignments is temporary and not meant to provide semi-permanent homes for individuals in state park campgrounds. Resident volunteers/hosts may service a maximum of nine (9) months annually and must have a minimum of three (3) consecutive months off park prior to occupying a host or resident site.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must pass a background check
  • Willing to volunteer outside during inclement weather
  • Must be able to lift 50-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday 
  • Knowledge of power tools and hand tools preferred
  • Knowledge of small engine and other equipment maintenance and repair preferred
  • Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to volunteer with little or no supervision.

NOTE: This is an ongoing opportunity at the park and applications will be accepted any time. Actual availabilities varies. Once registered, you will be placed on a waiting list and we will contact you as positions open. We receive a high volume of applications for these positions. Please be patient with us and we will contact you as needed.

Time Commitment:

In the busy summer season, we require a 6 month commitment, and prefer volunteers who can cover the entire season from May through September. Serving on weekends and holidays are required. Winter options available November - April.


SUMMER REQUIREMENTS: Individual volunteers who will be living on park by themselves must donate a minimum of 24-32 hours a week. For each resident volunteer site that is occupied by two people but only one person will be working/contributing hours to the park, that one volunteer required to serve 32 hours per week. When two volunteers reside in the same site and both are volunteering (pairs), 24 hours per person, per week is required.
